SCS Alumni Aaron

Hello! I’m Aaron, an alumnus of SCS’ class 2021. I’ll be pursuing my tertiary education in Data Science and Big Data Technology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. I aspire to contribute to the development of artificial intelligence and use my knowledge to further improve the lives by integrating smart technology and automated systems. I’ve harbored the desire to study at a global top university with some sort of scholarship since junior high. So I’ve worked hard ever since to maintain a high academic performance to maximize my chances to achieve that goal. Even so, I never in a million years have expected to be admitted to a university that belongs to the top 50 universities in the world and also to get a full tuition and accommodation scholarship.

I feel that pursuing my studies at SCS was key to that achievement. One major factor was learning under the A level curriculum and fully using English as the medium of learning which has put me 2 steps ahead. Another is their high standards of teaching Chinese. As I’ll be coexisting with Chinese students and professors, being one of the few international students proficient in Chinese will surely be a valuable asset for me. As I am currently undertaking my university’s Presessional Math Course, I find that I’m still able to keep up more comfortably and adapt more quickly than a lot of other fellow freshmen, who come from all over the world, as the topics currently being discussed happen to be similar to the A level syllabus that I learned last year in Grade 12.

Another major factor are the teachers. I wouldn’t have been able to perform as well as I did in my university entrance exam if it weren’t for them. Having teachers who patiently guided and clarified all my questions was vital to my learning process. To all SCS learners, dream bigger, be grateful of the opportunity you have, and make the most of it.

Whatever SCS lacks in other departments, it makes up for its uncontested teaching especially in the Cambridge AS & A Level Curriculum. When it comes to obtaining the best education and knowledge in the city, I have no regrets studying here in SCS. Another thing I like about this school is it’s family-like culture. Everyone feels welcomed and gets to be included in something bigger, whether it’s the Theatre Arts program or Basketball club.

Personally, I felt like I’ve grown so much from the student I was six years ago. I have learned so much in this school, in and out the classroom. This school has taught me to become well-rounded in all aspects of being a good person. I have had plenty of memories here in SCS. Though not all are pleasant ones, I do have the confidence to say that each experience, each day, has taught me to become the person I am today.

Our Alumni Clarisse Ratu Diandra

In five years of studying in SCS, I have acquired valuable knowledge and skills that I will need for my plans in the future. SCS nurtures students to be educated and well-mannered. In addition, the school itself is suitable for students to learn better and socialize well. With a high diversity of students and teachers, SCS helps students to be able to interact with people from different backgrounds and to embrace the differences.
The teachers are understanding towards our struggles in both academic and non- academic aspect. They always help and lend out a helping hand to anyone who is falling behind academically. Overall, the school provides a good environment for students to ace in their education.

Our Alumni Frederick Christopher Setiawan

Learning in SCS is very much comparable as to being in a roller coaster. In other words, there will certainly be ups and downs, which create a sense of joy and fear. However, like the end of a roller coaster ride, once you have completed the journey, you will never regret the experience.

Furthermore, as a registered Cambridge International School, SCS has given us the opportunity to participate in IGCSE, AS and A level examination which allow us to constantly challenge our understanding and have an upper edge in the competitive world of education.

I have learnt a lot of knowledge during my six years of studying at Surabaya Cambridge School. We use three languages, English, Indonesian and Chinese. In Indonesia, not too many people can speak Chinese well but in SCS, students speak Chinese very well. It gives me so much joy studying and finishing my secondary education from Surabaya Cambridge School. The teachers are very caring and treat all students fairly. Sometimes the teachers are like friends.

The way teachers teach students is also very good. They not only let us grow in knowledge but also help us apply our learning into real situations. They also give us a lot of encouragement to improve our outlook in life. They sometimes let us study independently. For example, when doing experiments in the laboratory, they will not give any clues or tips to students so that we will find ways to complete the experiment on our own. From the A Level curriculum I also learnt a lot of scientific knowledge which gives me a solid foundation for my study in ECUST.

Surabaya Cambridge School has been a huge part of my life. I was with SCS for my entire 12 years of the learning phase. It has not only contributed to my intelligence academically but it also shaped my character.

I find it so beneficial that I took the A level Cambridge curriculum as it helps me go through University tremendously. It’s easier for me to understand the University subjects as well as finish the tasks well. At the end of the day, A level curriculum was challenging but all in all worth it.

Our Alumni Yosephine Tania Limanto

Taking A-Level was not an easy choice, but every bit of hardship is worth it. I used A Level to get admitted to my university, and I realized that it is really accepted in a lot of places.

Using my A-Level, I was able to get admitted with Advanced Standing, which means free credits that I do not need to take any more of the courses. I was able to get 24 credits without actually taking the classes, and now I am able to take Year 2 classes. This is one of the many proofs that A-Level is not taken lightly by universities.

Our Alumni Janice Herman

I first choose A-Level to provide me better resources for University admission; however, going through University life, I realize that A-Level does not only bring one to get admitted to various universities, but it also provides a student a better foundation for critical thinking which is essential in University life.

Our Alumni Brandon Gunawan

I studied at SCS from the Kindergarten to Senior High School. The Cambridge curriculum in this School paves the way for me to be ten steps ahead of all non-Cambridge learners at my University. I also thank SCS for I am able to enter Universitas Surabaya with a scholarship.

Our Alumni Elaine Sebastian

Learning in SCS is really a great opportunity for me. The system learning that uses English as my everyday language makes me accustomed to the learning process at the University. The Cambridge curriculum also helps me to have advanced learning at Ciputra University.
